UAE markets 12 Sep 2007

UAE market news & discussions for 12 September 2007

Speculation of a merger between NBAD and ADCB surfaced yet again. Emaar said nothing to worry about in regard to the Saudi lawsuit, and that newspaper reports were incorrect. Amlak's CEO was reported to have forecast a 70% rise in profits for 2007 but did not say they would be AED 222m. Amlak 2006 profit + 70% is about AED 222m. Aabar's EGM on Monday approved issuing a AED 4.4 bn sukuk, a name change to Aabar Energy, and the sale of the Dalma subsidiary.

The DP World IPO story popped up again with a figure of over AED 15 billion being reported - almost 5x the Deyaar IPO recently, which is the largest IPO in the UAE to date. Following a note from Deutsche Bank last week that forecast a revaluation of the UAE dirham, the governors of the UAE and Qatari Central Banks said they remain committed to a US dollar peg.
