UAE market news & discussions for 22 October 2009

The ADX index fell 1.2% to 3120 points from turnover of AED 248m. The DFM index fell 0.63% to 2244 points from turnover of AED 774m, although Emaar Properties managed to close in the green (by just 1 fil), reflecting a sharp increase in the index in the last few minutes of trading. On the Nasdaq Dubai at 1415 UAE time, DP World is down 1.9%, Depa is unchanged, and Damas is up 5.9%.

    Emaar Properties (EMAAR) was the most active stock in Dubai, rising just 0.22% to 4.61 from AED 295m worth of turnover. Dubai Financial Market (DFM) was the only other stock trading more than AED 100m worth (barely), and closed unchanged at 2.50. Ektitab Holding (EKTTITAB) was the top gainer, up 9.5% to 1.04 from much higher than usual volumes (AED 31m worth). Gulfa Mineral Water (GULFA) closed 5% limit up, Al Firdous Holdings (ALFIRDOUS) was up 3.9%, Al Salam Bank Sudan (ALSALAMSUDAN) 3.2%, all three stocks trading on thin volumes. The only other two gainers were ALAl Salam Bank (SALAM_BAH) and Al Madina Finance (ALMADINA), both rising less than 2%. Gulf Finance House (GFH) was the worst of the more active losers, down 5.5% on greater than usual activity (AED 38m worth), Dubai Islamic Insurance (AMAN) fell 4.2%, Gulf Navigation (GULFNAV) 2.4%, Arab International Logistics (ARMX) 2.2%, and the remainder decreased by less than 2% or on low trading levels.

    Aldar Properties (ALDAR) was the most active stock in Abu Dhabi with just under AED 100m worth of trading, and falling 2.1% to 6.13. Arkan Building Materials (ARKAN) was the worst of the more active losers, down 3.5% to 3.60, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) fell 3.2%, Sorouh Real Estate (SOROUH) 3.1%, Ras Al Khaimah Cement (RAKCC) 3.05%, National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) 2.9%, and the remaining losers were down less than 3% or on turnover of less than AED 1m. There were only 7 gainers, and just 2 with traded value of more than AED 1m - First Gulf Bank (FGB) up just 0.27%, and Sharjah Islamic Bank (NBS) up 0.9%. Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) fell 0.81% to 12.30.
