UAE market news & discussions for 03 February 2009Both UAE markets fell sharply today but trading volumes continue to be very low. The DFM index fell 1.26% to 1,454 with 115 million shares traded valued at DH119 million. ARTC lead the charge once again falling 9.47% to a new low of 0.86. DFM and EMAAR were also off by more than 5.00%. On the positive side DIB was up 3.0% and DIC up 1.05%. The ADX index fell by 2.2% to 2,145 with 72 million shares traded worth DH 143 million. Trading was lead by FGB down 0.13%, ALDAR down 6.87%, SOROUH down 7.29% and ETISALAT down 1.35%. In business news the Australian Government joined the pump-priming party by announcing an additional $28 billion dollars of expenditure and immediately tapped the bond market to pay for it. Moody's has flagged a debt rating downgrade for assorted Dubai companies including EMAAR after other ratings agencies moved in December. RESULTS Aldar 2008Q4 profit AED 85m -84% Dubai Financial MarketOn the Dubai Financial Market 6 shares advanced and 14 declined. All sectors were down except for Banks and Transportation. Airarabia 0.91 up 2.24% and ARAMEX 0.86 up 1.12% had a good run. In Banking Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) was up 3.0% but the rest of the sctor was down. The losers were lead by Arabtec (ARTC) limit down, Dubai Financial Market (DFM) 0.76 (5.00%), Emaar Properties (EMAAR) 1.77 (5.85%) and Gulf Navigation (GULFNAV) 0.51 (5.55%) Abu Dhabi Securities ExchangeOn the ADX 4 shares advanced and 22 declined. Losses were across the board. In banking Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) was down 7.75%, First Gulf Bank (FGB) down 0.13%, but SIB managed a gain of 1.27%. There were heavy falls in Realesate and Energy. Aldar Properties (ALDAR) was off 6.87%, Sorouh Real Estate (SOROUH) fell by 7.78%, Aabar Energy (AABAR) declined 6.11% and Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA) fell by 7.29%. In Construction falls were lead by Arkan Building Materials (ARKAN) down 0.82% and Ras Al Khaimah Cement (RAKCC) down 7.14%. Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) was down again 1.35% to 9.53. | |
