UAE market news & discussions for 31 May 2009 It was a spectacular finish to the month of May on the UAE markets, and an excellent start to the week. The DFM had a solid 4.8% rise to 1878 points from turnover of almost AED 2 billion, more than we've seen for some time, with heavy trading in EMAAR on a substantial increase of more than 10%. The ADX rose 0.77% to 2679 points from turnover of AED 735m. On the Nasdaq Dubai at 15:00 UAE time, DP World is up 2.4% to $0.39, and Depa is up 3.5% to $0.57. Dubai Financial MarketEmaar Properties (EMAAR) was the most heavily traded stock with AED 469m worth of deals, and the 10.2% rise to 3.47 putting it at the top of the gainers list. Solid trading also seen for Dubai Financial Market (DFM) + 8.8%, Arabtec (ARTC) + 8.6%, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) +7.2%, and Drake & Scull (DSI) +4.8%, all with more than AED 100m worth of deals. Good gains on lower turnover for Shuaa Capital (SHUAA) +9.1%, Union Properties (UPP) +5.1%, and Emirates NBD (ENBD) +4.3%. Other gainers rose less than 4%. There were only 2 losers - Global Investment House (GLOBAL) down 5.2%, and Al Salam Bank Sudan (ALSALAMSUDAN) down 1.4%, both on low turnover. Abu Dhabi Securities ExchangeIn Abu Dhabi, the property stocks took the top three spots on the traded value table, and the top three spots on the gainers list (excluding the thinly traded stocks). Aldar Properties (ALDAR) +5.3% to 4.23 from AED 244m turnover, Sorouh Real Estate (SOROUH) +5.3% to 3.20 from AED 185m turnover, and Ras Al Khaimah Properties (RAKPROP) + 4.8% to 0.66 from AED 57m turnover. International Fish Farming (ASMAK) and Palestinian Telecommunications (PALTEL) both traded 10% limit up but from small single trades. Other good gains for Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) +3.8%, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) +3.7%, and First Gulf Bank (FGB) +3.0%. The remaining gainers were up less than 3% or on low volumes. Methaq Islamic Insurance (METHAQ) topped the losers list closing 10% limit down, Arkan Building Materials (ARKAN) fell 6.7%, Agthia Group (AGTHIA) 1.4%, and the other losers fell on low volumes or less than 1%. Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) edged up by just 0.1% and National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) fell 0.2%. | |
