UAE markets 19 Oct 2008

UAE market news & discussions for 19 October 2008

A fairly mundane trading day on UAE markets today. In the context of the last two weeks we will call this positive. The DFM index ended 0.37% up at 3215 with the value of shares traded at 943 million dirhams. The ADX index closed at 3446 a rise of 2.38% from the previous close. However the value of shares traded was only 451 million dirhams.
EMAAR lead the trading on the DFM closing up 0.72% with 64 million shares traded. Results released after trading headlined by a Dhs 750 million write off but a good result anyway.
DIB was in the news as it was confirmed their ex CEO was now being detained to enable him to better help police with their enquiries. The share price was down 3.2% in early trading but recovered to close down 0.80%
SHUAA ended down 8.49% as the market digested the H12008 results. The company blamed mark to market accounting, the credit crisis and exposure to Lehman Brothers. Apparently it was all a big surprise.
On the ADX, ETISALAT lead the way closing up 3.70% on turnover of 2.5 million shares traded.
