UAE market news & discussions for 17 June 2009The DFM index fell 2.8% to 2079 points from turnover of just over AED 1 billion while the ADX rose marginally, by 0.11% to 2862 points from turnover of AED 440m. Some emails yesterday suffered a delivery delay. Apologies for that, the problem is being investigated. It has nothing to do with new Saudi border controls as far as we know. Dubai Financial Market Drake & Scull (DSI) (-1.9% to 1.03 from AED 182m) once again pushed Emaar Properties (EMAAR) (-3.1% to 3.78 from AED 139m) into second place on turnover, while Emarat Takaful Insurance (TAKAFUL-EM) (+5.4% to 2.16 from AED 129m) stood out with a solid gain on substantial volumes, and was the only other stock trading more than AED 100m worth in Dubai. Most stocks were in the red with a majority of them falling between 3% and 5%. Biggest fall was Al Salam Bank Sudan (ALSALAMSUDAN) down 6.8%, followed by National General Cooling (TABREED) down 5.6% and Arab International Logistics (ARMX) down 5.5%. Air Arabia (AIRARABIA) wasn't too badly off with a 1% fall, and Arabtec (ARTC) fell 1.95%. Apart from Takaful Emarat, Dar Takaful Insurance (DARTAKAFUL) was the only other gainer of note, rising 3.6% to 2.90. Global Investment House (GLOBAL) and National Cement Company (NCC) made up the total of 4 gainers, rising on low volumes. Islamic Arab Insurance (IAIC) closed unchanged at 1.34. Abu Dhabi Securities ExchangeRas Al Khaimah Properties (RAKPROP) was again the focus of Abu Dhabi traders with a 2.2% rise to 0.90, and the highest turnover level of AED 137m, the only stock trading more than AED 100m worth. Emirates Driving Company (DRIVE) topped the gainers list with a 10% rise to 4.60 from greater than usual trading, Methaq Islamic Insurance (METHAQ) rose 3.4%, Green Crescent Insurance (GCIC) 2.65%, and the remaining gainers were up less than 2% or on low volumes. Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) and National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) were unchanged at 10.50 and 10.40 respectively. Agthia Group (AGTHIA) was the worst of the more active losers with a 1.9% fall to 1.54, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) fell 1.5%, Waha Capital (OILC) 1.05%, and the remaining losers were down less than 1% or on low turnover. | |
