UAE market news & discussions for 05 November 2008

Its the moning after the night before and the american people have chosen hope and youth over experience and wisdom. Markets in asia rallied strongly, however europe has opened lower as the realisation sets in that the world is facing the same economic problems as the night before. So how did UAE markets react?
The DFM index closed barely changed at 2917 with the value of shares traded at 810 million dirhams sharply higher than the last couple of trading sessions. The ADX index closed 1.51% up at 3435 with the value shares traded at 425 million dirhams again better than the prior trading sessions.
On the DFM trading was dominated by EMAAR closing 0.56% down at 5.30 dirhams on 65 million shares traded. ARTC up 1.69% was also heavily traded as it emerged that its project in Russia might be delayed. TABREED was also slightly up by 0.90% after it released its results confirming that it is struggling to profit from the business of selling cool air in the desert.
On the ADX, trading by value was topped by ALDAR rising 2.5% and also FGB up 4.8% on news that it has permission to buy back 10% of its shares.

Dubai Financial Market

On the Dubai Financial Market 16 shares rose and 7 declined.
Gainers were lead by Dubai Islamic Insurance (AMAN) limit up over 14%. TAKAFUL HOUSE and EMARAT continue to do well up 1.4% and 7.4% respectively.
Decliners were lead by Amlak Finance Company (AMLAK) down 0.52%, Deyaar Development (DEYAAR) down 0.88% and Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) down 1.2% at 4.04 approaching its 52 week low.

Abu Dhabi Securities Market

On the ADX, 26 shares advanced and 11 declined.
The banks again did well with National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) up 6.3%, SIB up 8.3% and all others up apart from Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) down 0.38%.
Energy stocks were all higher; Aabar Energy (AABAR) up 3.9%, Dana Gas (DANA) up 0.96% and Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA) up 3.5%.
In Consumers Abu Dhabi National Hotels (ADNH) was down 0.43% and Agthia Group (AGTHIA) up 2.5%.
In Telecoms, Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) was up 0.31%, Qatar Telecom (QTEL) up 3% and Sudan Telecom (SUDATEL) up 1.2%.
