UAE market news & discussions for 31 May 2009

It was a spectacular finish to the month of May on the UAE markets, and an excellent start to the week. The DFM had a solid 4.8% rise to 1878 points from turnover of almost AED 2 billion, more than we've seen for some time, with heavy trading in EMAAR on a substantial increase of more than 10%. The ADX rose 0.77% to 2679 points from turnover of AED 735m. On the Nasdaq Dubai at 15:00 UAE time, DP World is up 2.4% to $0.39, and Depa is up 3.5% to $0.57.

Dubai Financial Market

Emaar Properties (EMAAR) was the most heavily traded stock with AED 469m worth of deals, and the 10.2% rise to 3.47 putting it at the top of the gainers list. Solid trading also seen for Dubai Financial Market (DFM) + 8.8%, Arabtec (ARTC) + 8.6%, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) +7.2%, and Drake & Scull (DSI) +4.8%, all with more than AED 100m worth of deals. Good gains on lower turnover for Shuaa Capital (SHUAA) +9.1%, Union Properties (UPP) +5.1%, and Emirates NBD (ENBD) +4.3%. Other gainers rose less than 4%. There were only 2 losers - Global Investment House (GLOBAL) down 5.2%, and Al Salam Bank Sudan (ALSALAMSUDAN) down 1.4%, both on low turnover.

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange

In Abu Dhabi, the property stocks took the top three spots on the traded value table, and the top three spots on the gainers list (excluding the thinly traded stocks). Aldar Properties (ALDAR) +5.3% to 4.23 from AED 244m turnover, Sorouh Real Estate (SOROUH) +5.3% to 3.20 from AED 185m turnover, and Ras Al Khaimah Properties (RAKPROP) + 4.8% to 0.66 from AED 57m turnover. International Fish Farming (ASMAK) and Palestinian Telecommunications (PALTEL) both traded 10% limit up but from small single trades. Other good gains for Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) +3.8%, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) +3.7%, and First Gulf Bank (FGB) +3.0%. The remaining gainers were up less than 3% or on low volumes. Methaq Islamic Insurance (METHAQ) topped the losers list closing 10% limit down, Arkan Building Materials (ARKAN) fell 6.7%, Agthia Group (AGTHIA) 1.4%, and the other losers fell on low volumes or less than 1%. Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) edged up by just 0.1% and National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) fell 0.2%.

UAE market news & discussions for 28 May 2009

A good finish to the trading week with more gains in the UAE stockmarkets. Shuaa was 15% limit up and Arkan 10% limit up again, but the rocket under Methaq fizzled out and shares fell slightly. Sorouh also had a solid rise from heavy trading. The DFM index rose 1.6% to 1792 points from AED 525m of turnover, and the ADX rose 0.58% to 2659 points from turnover of AED 532m. On Nasdaq Dubai at 15:30 UAE time, DP World is up 4.2% to $0.375, Depa is unchanged, and there have been a handful of trades in derivatives for DP World, Union Properties, Shuaa Capital, Sorouh, and Aldar, all in the green.

Dubai Financial Market

Emaar Properties (EMAAR) dominated trading in Dubai and was the only company to see more than AED 100m worth of deals, rising 2.6% to 3.15 from AED 230m of turnover. As mentioned, Shuaa Capital (SHUAA) was 15% limit up again at 1.65, and no sellers in the queue for most of the day. Gulf General Investment (GGICO) also soared, by 12% to 2.05 from greater than usual volumes. Emarat Takaful Insurance (TAKAFUL-EM) rose 4.35%, Emirates NBD (ENBD) 4.1%, Gulf Navigation (GULFNAV) 3.1% and most other stocks rose less than 3% or were unchanged. There were only 4 losers, and only Emirates Integrated Telecommunications (DU) saw more than AED 1m worth of deals, falling by just 0.73%.

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange

Sorouh Real Estate (SOROUH) topped the traded value list with AED 179m worth of deals, and a solid 4.1% rise to 3.10. Sorouh was also the only stock trading more than AED 100m worth. Arkan Building Materials (ARKAN), Union Cement (UCC), and Gulf Medical Projects (GMPC) had 10% limit up closing prices but only Arkan saw more than AED 1m worth of trading. Other good gains for Ras Al Khaimah Cement (RAKCC) up 4.8%, and standing out with AED 60m worth of deals - more than the usual activity levels. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) rose 4.0%, Agthia Group (AGTHIA) 2.9%, and the other gainers were up less than 2% or on low volumes. First Gulf Bank (FGB) and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) were amongst the 9 stocks that closed unchanged. Green Crescent Insurance (GCIC) was the worst of the more active losers, falling 2.4%, Ras Al Khaimah Properties (RAKPROP) was down 1.6%, Union National Bank (UNB) and Methaq Islamic Insurance (METHAQ) 1.5%, and the remaining losers fell less than 1% or on low volumes. Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) and National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) were almost unchanged, both falling by about 0.1%.

UAE market news & discussions for 27 May 2009

Good rises in UAE markets today with most stocks in the green although the DFM faded after lunch. Methaq and Arkan continued their relentless quest to stay on top of the overpriced stock list with limit up trading again, and in Dubai, Shuaa Capital had another limit up day. The DFM index rose 1.9% to 1763 points from solid turnover of AED 1.1 billion and the ADX rose 1.3% to 2644 points from turnover of AED 378 m. On Nasdaq Dubai at 16:15 UAE time, DP World is up 7.25%, Depa is up 5.3%, Boulder Steel has fallen 19%, and there were small trades in derivatives for Dana Gas (unchanged), DP World (unchanged) and Gulf Cement (+9.3%).

Dubai Financial Market

The top three stocks by traded value were Emaar Properties (EMAAR) (+5.5% to 3.07 from AED 343m), Dubai Financial Market (DFM) (+1.4% to 1.48 from AED 252m), and Arabtec (ARTC) (unchanged at 2.63 from AED 158m). Shuaa Capital (SHUAA) was the top gainer, opening 15% limit up at 1.44 and staying there all day with turnover restricted to just AED 1.4m by the lack of willing sellers. Gulf General Investment (GGICO) also fared well, closing 14.4% up at 1.83 with turnover higher than usual. The only other stocks to rise more than 2% were Gulf Finance House (GFH) up 9.7% on thin trading, and Emarat Takaful Insurance (TAKAFUL-EM) up 3.0%. There were only 4 losers in Dubai: Drake & Scull (DSI) the worst with a 2.35% fall, Al Salam Bank (SALAM_BAH) down 1.7%, and Ajman Islamic Bank (AJMANBANK) and Dubai Islamic Insurance (AMAN) down less than 1% each.

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange

Sorouh Real Estate (SOROUH) was the only stock to trade more than AED 100m worth (just barely) and rose 3.9% to 2.96. Methaq Islamic Insurance (METHAQ), Arkan Building Materials (ARKAN), Gulf Medical Projects (GMPC), and Gulf Cement (GCEM) all closed 10% limit up, Sharjah Cement (SCIDC) and Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries (JULPHAR) were up more than 6% each, First Gulf Bank (FGB) climbed 4.55% to 11.35, Agthia Group (AGTHIA) and Aldar Properties (ALDAR) were up over 2%, and most other stocks were up less than 2% or on turnover of less than AED 1m. Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) was up just 0.4% and National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) 0.75%. There were only 5 losers, and only Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA), down 1.1%, saw more than AED 1m worth of trading.
