UAE market news & discussions for 30 November 2008

The last day of trading for November 2008 saw gains across the board as the DFM index rose 1.85% to 1965 points with turnover of AED 864m from volume of 516m shares, and the ADX index gained 2.0% to close at 2776 with turnover of AED 402 million from volume of 144m shares. Speculation on a merger between Emirates and Etihad continued with The Sunday Times saying that Abu Dhabi "has demanded control of Emirates." Both Etihad and Emirates bluntly denied the speculation in statements today. Nakheel were reported to have cut 500 jobs, and said "We have the responsibility to adjust our short term business plans to accommodate the current global environment." Arabtec announced an EGM on 23 December 2008 to vote on the 1:1 bonus share proposal which had prompted a sharp increase in share price over the past few trading days.

Dubai Financial Market

Almost 100m shares of Emaar Properties (EMAAR) were traded, worth AED 293m, as the price ended the day up by 4.3% at 2.93. Arabtec (ARTC) was in second place by turnover with AED 93m of trading, and a 2.0% increase to 4.55 although shares were up by more than 10% earlier in the day. Shuaa Capital (SHUAA) was the biggest gainer of the actively traded stocks with an 11.9% rise to 1.79, although turnover was still relatively light. Emirates Integrated Telecommunications (DU), Gulf Navigation (GULFNAV), and Ajman Islamic Bank (AJMANBANK) all rose between 6-7% and apart from thin trading in Dubai Islamic Insurance (AMAN) and Gulf Finance House (GFH), the remaining gainers rose less than 6%. There were only 7 losers, including Emarat Takaful Insurance (TAKAFUL-EM) down by 7%, Mashreq Bank (MASQ) down by 2.2%, and Emirates NBD (ENBD) down by 1.35%.

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange

Aldar Properties (ALDAR) dominated turnover as usual, with a 6.2% rise to 5.42 from AED 144m of turnover. Sorouh Real Estate (SOROUH) was also busy and rose 6.9% to 3.40. Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) was the biggest gainer on active trading, up by 9% to 2.57. Four stocks saw limit up trading, including Aabar Energy (AABAR) which closed at 1.94. Ras Al Khaimah Cement (RAKCC) was up 7%, Waha Capital (OILC) 6.6%, and the remaining actively traded gainers rose less than 6%. Emirates Telecom (ETISALAT) was up only 0.8% to 12.05, and National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) up 1.4% to 11.55. First Gulf Bank (FGB) rose 4.6% to 9.15 with insider buying of over 800k shares. There were only 5 losers, none on any volume of significance.

UAE markets 27 Nov 2008

UAE market news & discussions for 27 November 2008

UAE markets rallied today largely on the strength of Realestate stocks. Volumes remain low but trading is less erratic as investors start to focus on end of year results. The UAE Government has also played its part higlighting the UAE's fundamental financial strength.
The DFM index closed 3% up at 1,928 on volume of 348 milion shares traded worth 577 dirhams. ARTC again lead the trading closing limit up at 4.46 dirhams for the third day in a row. EMAAR and DFM both closed nearly 10% higher on strong volumes.
The ADX index closed 1.3% up at 2,720 on volume of 67 million shares traded worth 141 million dirhams. Trading was lead by Realestate stocks and a strong performance by ETISALAT up 3.0%.
NASDAQ DUBAI (1630)
DPW up 3.0% and DEPA up 4.0%.

Dubai Financial Market

On the Dubai Financial Market 12 stocks advanced and four declined.
The realestate sector lead the way rising by 9.5%.
Other gainers on significant volume included: Air Arabia (AIRARABIA) up 3.2%, Deyaar Development (DEYAAR), Dubai Investment Company (DIC), Emirates Integrated Telecommunications (DU) up 6.0% and Gulf Navigation (GULFNAV) up 7.0%.
Gulf General Investment (GGICO) down 4.0% was the only loser on significant volume

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange

On the ADX 20 stocks advanced and 11 declined.
Apart from REALESTATE stocks, ENERGY stocks had a strong day with Aabar Energy (AABAR) up 3.5% and Dana Gas (DANA) up 4.5%. Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA) closed down 1.57%.
BANKS were strong lead by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) up 3.3%. However, First Gulf Bank (FGB) continued to fall down 1.5%.
In CONSTRUCTION, Arkan Building Materials (ARKAN) closed up 1.5% with the rest steady on low trading volume.

UAE market news & discussions for 26 November 2008

UAE markets diverged today as the DFM index closed higher and the ADX index tracked lower.
The DFM index closed 0.53% higher at 1,872 on volume of 154 million shares traded worth 266 million dirhams.
ARTC dominated trading closing limit up again at 3.88 on volume of 24 million shares. EMAAR remained unchanged at 2.56 dirhams on volume of 25 million shares.
The ADX index closed 1.65% down at 2,685 on volume of 56 million shares traded worth 206 million dirhams. Losses were widespread including FGB down 8.70%, AABAR down 8.5%, and ETISALAT down 3.5%.
NASDAQ DUBAI (1630)
DPW down 2.94% and DEPA steady.

Dubai Financial Market

On the Dubai Financial Market 10 stocks advanced and 9 declined.
Stocks to gain included: Ajman Islamic Bank (AJMANBANK) up 2.24%, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications (DU) up 1.66%, Dubai Financial Market (DFM) up 1.75%, Gulf Navigation (GULFNAV) up 1.2% and Islamic Arab Insurance (IAIC) up 4.0%.
Stocks to decline included: National General Cooling (TABREED) down 2.7%, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) down 2.4% and Deyaar Development (DEYAAR) down 1.5%.

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange

On the ADX 15 stocks advanced and 22 declined.
Stocks to gain included: Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) up 3.0%, SIB up 2.7%, Abu Dhabi National Hotels (ADNH) up 5.5% and Arkan Building Materials (ARKAN) up 7.0%.
Stocks to decline included: All the energy sector, Aabar Energy (AABAR) down 8.56%, Dana Gas (DANA) down 1.49% and Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA) down 2.3%.
REALESTATE was also weak with Aldar Properties (ALDAR) down 1.77%, Ras Al Khaimah Properties (RAKPROP) down 3.1% and Sorouh Real Estate (SOROUH) down 1.3%.
